SOUTH AFRICA TO NAME AFCON QUALIFIER SQUAD NEXT WEEK

South Africa have a crucial clash against Libya in the last game in the qualifies for the 2019 Afcon in three weeks. South Africa gaffer Stuart Baxter is expected to name his squad for the crunch clash next week according to reports from Media sources in the nation.

It is understood that the country’s football association (SAFA) have confirmed the date of the official announcement for next week. The Bafana Bafana are currently second in the group with nine points two ahead of Libya on seven points. Anything other than a defeat would see the country qualifier for the Afcon to held in Egypt in June.

However, Libya possesses a formidable opposition for South Africa having drawn the first leg 0-0 in South Africa. The clash is expected to take place in Tunisia due to the political instability plaguing Libya at the moment and could be a huge moment for the war-torn nation.

The North African side are seen by some quarters as having the edge as they only need to win to overtake South Africa and qualify for the tournament. Bafanahave been synonymous with disappointment as the team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and last three Afcon tournaments.

Baxter is expected to name a strong team featuring both home and foreign-based player. South Africa has a well-organized league and most of their national team players ply their trade in the Premier Soccer League.

SAFA has also been able to prevail on the PSL to postpone some matches to enable the National team to get the best possible preparation for the tie.

The players are expected to resume to camp a week before the clash to begin training for the game. Baxter is expected to call some of his Europe based stars including star player Percy Tau and Lebo Mothiba.

However there are genuine concerns in the Goalkeeping position with the unavailability of first choice stopper Itumeleng Khune as a result of Injury.
