TAU MISSES OUT ON STALEMATE

South Africa national team player Percy Tau was not in the Brighton and Hove Albion squad for their last Premier League clash. He was absent as the Seagulls played out a drab goalless affair with European hopefuls Everton at home.

Tau has not been a part of the Brighton squad since he played for South Africa in the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers last month. He could not help South Africa to book a place at the tournament proper in Cameroon at the start of next year.

He has been forced to quarantine upon returning to England from his trip to play the qualifiers with the BafanaBafana of South Africa. Tau missed the league trip to Manchester United as the Old Trafford club ended his team’s two-game winning run via a 2-1 scoreline.

Brighton strikerDanny Welbeck came back to haunt his former club with the opening goal in the first half before two goals from the home side saw the game turn on its head. Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood scored the goals for Manchester United to win the game.

Tau then missed the Everton game as revealed earlier but he could return to take his place on the Brighton bench ahead of the trip to take on Champions League chasers Chelsea who are smarting from getting to the Champions League semi-finals. The Blues are in the final four of the Champions League this season despite losing to a wonder goal from Mehdi Taremi of Iran on Tesdaynight.

Taremi scored for FC Porto to give the Portuguese giants a 1-0 away win though it was not enough to take them through to the semis after losing the first leg 2-0 at home. The Blues sealed a semi-final berth with a 2-1 aggregate win.

Chelsea will now face Real Madrid in the semis as their reward for seeing off FC Porto in the last round. On their part, Spanish champions Real Madrid saw off Premier League team Liverpool 3-1 on aggregate in their quarterfinal tie.
