MABOE: WE WON’T SIT BACK

Mamelodi Sundowns maestro Lebohang Maboe says Bafana Bafana will not hold anything back when they play host to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a 2019 African Nations’ Cup Qualifiers match this weekend.

South Africa go into the game on the back of a recent poor run of form and knowing they cannot afford to lose against the in-form Super Eagles, who have collected nine points from a possible nine, if they are going to have any chance of qualifying for the African Nations’ Cup in 2019.

The Bafanas came out on top the last time both teams faced in a friendly game in Uyo last year.

Maboe, who had a phenomenal game for the South Africans in their last outing against Seychelles in which they won 6-0, is likely to get the nod from the Bafana manager ahead of Thulani Serero in the number 10 role when they take on 2018 World Cup participants Nigeria at FNB Stadium on Saturday by 3pm CAT.

“It’s obviously going to be a huge game, knowing that we need a point I think to qualify. Knowing they are coming here, I don’t think the coach will want us to sit back and defend,” the former Maritzburg United midfielder said.

“We are playing at home so we have to use the home advantage and hopefully win the game.”

The 24 year old was not a part of the squad that went down against the Super Eagles 2-0 in the opening group match in Uyo but now has a huge opportunity to show the West Africans the stuff he is made of.

A huge match like this will also prepare the Mamelodi Sundowns defender well for the club’s upcoming campaign in the CAF Champions League.

It will definitely be a tough ask of South Africa to defeat the Super Eagles but with the right tactics and attitude, they should come out on top.
